Maol Mide is a 13th century daughter of a wealthy ruling family of Northern Ireland who did not mind their youngest daughter learning to read and write at the local monastic scriptorium as part of her education. Her love of the written word drove her toward the arts of calligraphy and illumination so that she could present written works as beautifully as possible.
